After many years of catering inactivity, interesting innovations are happening in Vulture, too. This is the case of the Tulipano, the restaurant of the Garden Hotel. It was opened some years ago, is located at the gates of Barile and includes 46 rooms and a pool among olive trees replanted on a hill. This is a point of reference when you travel among castles and cellars in Vulture, this is an experience outside the banal mass tourism network. The white, bright room is furnished in a very simple style: there is good attention to the extra virgin olive oil associated with some products of the territory like the bread. The service is professional and Donato Valentino’s cuisine is lively and based on the traditional tastes which are made tastier thanks to innovative choices. He tries to add elements like in the case of the “strascinati” pasta dedicated to the brigand Carmine Rocco with pork meat, “cruschi” peppers and “cacioricotta” cheese from Lucania. The sweet and sour pork chops and the lamb are very good. Dried pastries from Lucania are offered before the desserts. You can finish your meal with a fruit, jam and chestnut cream tart. The style is modern, above all the presentations, yet they are never characterized by virtuosity but they show the ability to combine the needs of the hotel cuisine with the ones of gourmets looking for something new. The professional sommelier, who is in the room, proposes above all the Aglianico del Vulture wine but also wines from other regions. You will roughly spend 25 Euros, excluding wine.
