> Restaurants and trattorias: inside and outside the guides (344) Ascea, Cilento. Le Macine24/06/2007
Via Grisi,
14 Luciano Frolla opened this restaurant in 1992. It is located in an oil mill with an old wooden and stone machine grinder which has been completely saved. This place, on the ground floor of a fine building on the road leading from Ascea Marina to the centre, is really charming. It is within a stone’s throw from the archaeological area of Velia. The strong points of this restaurant are the seafood and the vegetables which are prepared in the Cilento style, they aren’t pan-fried but are cooked for a long time. The cabbage, the French beans with tomato sauce, the zucchini with egg, the stuffed aubergines and the julienne peppers are superb. These dishes are able to satisfy any confirmed vegetarian. I also recommend the seafood which is fresh and very good and it is cooked according to traditional techniques: it is roasted, it is prepared in the “acqua pazza” style or in a soup. We really enjoyed this seafood very much as we hadn’t for a long time. Pasta lovers will enjoy the hand-made pasta like “trofie”, “fusilli” and ravioli which are usually cooked with seafood sauces. The wine-list is good, it includes wines from Campania and Italy. The service is homely. Luciano is a point of reference for all the tourists who usually visit this area which has 600.000 century-old and millenary olive trees. You will roughly spend 30 Euros.
